Studio Policy & Registration
Dear Parents,
If this is your first time as a band parent, welcome to a very large club. If your student is a beginner, please keep in mind, they must walk before they can run...it won’t always sound so bad. Lessons are one of the best things that you can do to help your child progress, especially with double reed instruments.
Lesson Prices: The price of your students' lessons are set by your student's school district's fine arts programs. Please see their policy, or ask me. The schools that I service range from $20.00 - $25.00.
Lesson Payments: Lessons are billed for the month in advance and are due by the 1st. If you do not receive an invoice by email, go to the payment page and pay your invoice by selecting the correct school district and number of lessons expected for the month. If I must miss a lesson, you may be able to schedule a make up or your credit will roll into the following month.
Payment Options: If you are unable to make the payment by the month, please contact me for other options. I will work with you in order to enable your student to be in lessons. Most school programs do not want me to continue lessons if there has been more than two lessons without payment. If there is a special circumstance, please discuss this with me before it occurs.
COVID-19: Many families have been affected financially by the pandemic. If you need assistance paying for your lessons beyond what your schools scholarship program has available, please talk with me.
Payment Types: I accept all credit cards and checks and PayPal. I prefer not to accept cash, for your child’s security, but if this is your preference, please put into an envelope with your child’s name and the lesson dates for which you are paying. (Cash will need to be converted to Money Orders and mailed while we are doing online lessons during COVID.)

Illness: Please notify me by 7:00 a.m. the day of your students lesson to allow me time to reschedule other students. If I do not receive notification, you may not qualify for a Make-Up Lesson or credit.
Field Trips/Holidays/Testing: It is your responsibility to keep me informed of ANY school events that will cause your student to miss their lesson. This includes field trips, holidays, early releases, concerts, field days and testing among other possible events. Please notify me at least 48-hours in advance. I work on multiple campuses in several school districts and as much as I would like to, I cannot keep up with individual school schedules. A schedule may change during a week to accommodate as many students as possible throughout my studio due to testing, trips or other events that may impact the lesson schedule.
Make Up Lessons: If your student must miss their lesson, you must notify me at least 24 hours in advance. A make up might not be available on your campus. A make-up lesson does not take the place of your regularly scheduled lesson.
Scholarships: If your student is on a scholarship and you fail to make notification that your student will miss their lesson, you will be billed for the full cost of the lesson, so please remember to keep me informed. This is district policy.
Late Payments: Consistently late payments will incur a late fee of $10.00 per month.
Returned Payments: Payments returned by your bank will incur a $35.00 return payment/check fee.

Practice and locations: It is important that your student practice every day, as much as they can. I do not like to give minimum times because they tend to play by their watch instead of what needs to get done. They don’t do math or English homework with a stopwatch and they don’t need to make music that way either. Practice is homework. Your student should treat it as such. We will make a lot more progress if they prepare for their lessons. They will generally practice less than an hour at first. Just think, I listen to 45-50 students for at least 30 minutes every week. You can survive this!
Your student should have a place to practice that is void of distractions. They will need a chair, music stand and good lighting. If you live in an apartment or with small children or elderly who are sleeping, I kid not, a closet is the best place to practice. The clothes absorb much of the sound.
Appointments: Please try and schedule any doctor/dentist appointments on a day other than your lesson day. In many cases I am only in your child’s class one day a week. Dental/Orthodontic Appointments: Please try to avoid dental or orthodontic appointments the day before your students’ lesson and a week before any contests, to avoid mouth pain and playing difficulty.
Supplies: There are a number of supplies that all students need for their success in the program. Double reeds are rare and need very specific items. I have made a list of supplies for you from businesses where I get my supplies. I would be pleased to discuss my suggestions, and the reasons behind them, with you. In prior years area students ended up with locally purchased items that were inappropriate, wrong sized, more expensive or something that through its use ended up causing expensive damage.
Summer Lessons: Lessons are available during the summer as schedules and locations allow. Please contact me for location and schedule.
